Whether you are playing in a home or on a casino floor, Poker is a game that requires skill. Players are dealt five cards, face up, and must decide if they want to discard any of them to improve their hand. The winner takes the pot as winnings.

The basic rule of the game is that you must believe that your hand is better than all of your opponents’ hands. You may bet or pass. If you bet, your bet will be put into the pot in the middle of the table.

If you pass, you will not have to show your hand. The next player to bet will show his or her hand. When a tie occurs, the player with the highest card wins. The other player(s) in the pot are required to show their cards.

The highest hand is three of a kind. This is made up of three cards of the same rank, like jacks, kings, queens, or aces. The next highest hand is four of a kind. This is also made up of four cards of the same rank, but a different suit.

The straight is made up of five cards in sequence. It can be any suit. If two of the five are the same suit, then the straight wins. If they are not, then the highest straight wins.

When three of a kind is the highest hand, then the winner is the player who has the most cards of that type. In a tie, the winner is the player who has the highest unmatched fifth card.
